1. The Clinical Challenge
In the context of public health, tracking and estimating daily nutritional intake especially sugar, sodium, and fat is crucial but often inaccurate. Manual approaches or the use of questionnaires struggle to precisely quantify portion sizes. There was a need for a mobile application based on Indonesian food data that could accurately calculate nutrients, particularly for added sugar intake.
2. The Incode Online Solution
Incode Online developed Kuala24 as a comprehensive nutritional calculator mobile application based on Android. The solution is supported by a robust data and algorithm foundation:
- Indonesian Food Database: The application possesses a complete and specific database of Indonesian foods, beverages, and snacks, ensuring calculation results are relevant to local eating habits.
- Comprehensive Nutritional Calculation: Users can input their daily intake to calculate nutrients including energy, water, carbohydrate, protein, fat, sodium, and sugar (especially added sugar).
- Accurate Portion Measurement: The application uses the Modified Multiple-pass 24-hour Recall method (4 Stages), aided by Food Photographs (Portion Size), to help users describe and estimate their food portions in greater detail and accuracy.
3. Measurable Results (Accuracy & Healthy Habit Support)
Kuala24 became a vital tool for research and education, allowing users to monitor their nutrient fulfillment against their daily needs, thereby supporting healthier nutritional intake habits.
